Instructions for Authors

General Instructions

Thanks for choosing to submit your paper to Journal of Craft & Design Research (JCDR). Before preparing your manuscript and submitting it to JCDR, kindly read the instructions carefully so that your manuscript meets essential requirements or standards of the journal. Fulfilling the journal’s requirements in all respect ensures that your paper, if selected, can move through peer review, production and publication smoothly.


Submission Fees & Article Publishing Charge (APC)

Presently there is no manuscript submission fee as well as Article Processing Charge (APC).


Peer Review and Ethics

Journal of Craft & Design Research (JCDR) is committed to peer-review integrity and maintaining the highest standards of review. After preliminary assessment of the manuscript by the editor for its suitability and general structure as per the journal standard, it will be subjected to peer review process by the editorial board of the journal.


Research and Publishing Ethics

The editorial team is in strong agreement to ensure that the content to be published in JCDR is ethically sound. To achieve this goal, the editorial team is in favour of closely following the advice laid out in the guidelines and flowcharts on the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) website.

We have also developed our research and publishing ethics guidelines. If you have missed to read these, we urge you to do so first. They will help you avoid the most common publishing ethics issues.


A Few Key Points:
  • Any manuscript submitted to this journal should be original and free from plagiarism. It should not have been published before in its current, or similar form. Exceptions to this rule is applicable for conference paper as per other peer-reviewed journals’ conference paper policy. If the manuscript contains substantial amount of previously published materials/content, the author(s) must declare this to the journal editor upon submission.

  • The current manuscript should not have been submitted elsewhere and should not be under consideration by any other publishing house.

  • The author(s) must declare, upon submission of the manuscript, the conflict of interest, if any.


Author Guidelines for Preparation of Manuscript

Authors are required to read the following guidelines carefully and thoroughly before preparing the manuscript.


Instructions to Authors
Nature of Manuscripts

Research Articles
Research articles should not exceed 10,000 words [display items (illustrations including tables and figures) should not exceed 10 numbers; and references should be limited to 40-45]. It should discuss current trends in research in traditional knowledge. The articles should include an appropriate title, abstract, keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions, references, and appropriate illustrations including tables, figures and supplementary information, that will help a general reader. The author(s) should also provide acknowledgements and funding details if any, conflict of interest, and author’s contribution statements, at the end of the manuscript before the reference section.

Review Articles
Review articles should not exceed 15,000 words. In this case, the display items should be limited to 10 numbers including tables and figures; and references should be limited to 70-80. These articles should encompass surveys and discuss the developments in the domain related to traditional knowledge. They must dwell more on research work done during the last couple of years in the field. The authors should integrate their own work with that of others with acumen and authenticity. Research & Publication Ethics of JCDR

The entire publishing team of JCDR (Journal of Craft and Design Research) are fully committed to ethical publication practice.

The editorial team acts in accordance with the principles laid down by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and support for maintaining consistent ethical standards throughout the scholarly publishing community.


Summary of Research & Publishing Ethics of JCDR

Authors are requested to submit their research to JCDR if the following conditions are fulfilled:

  • The research has been conducted with the highest standards of rigour and integrity.

  • The article/case study is original.

  • The article has not been submitted elsewhere and is not under consideration for publication in other publishing house.

  • The article should not contain any libellous, defamatory or unlawful statements.

  • If any third-party material is included in the article, then prior permission must be taken.

  • Proof of consent has been obtained for any named individuals or organisations.


Citation Manipulation
Self-Citation

Authors should abstain from using excessive self-citations of their own previously published works. If self-citation is used, that must be relevant, add value to the article, and should not be included just to increase the citation score of the author(s).


Plagiarism Policy

The article submitted by the author(s) should be based on their own original research and expressed in their own words. The article/content submitted for publication in JCDR should be free from plagiarism (of any kind, including self-plagiarism). Before submitting the article/content, the author(s) are advised to check plagiarism, so that Similarity Index does not exceed 10% in general (as per UGC norms).


General & Style Guidelines of JCDR

The Journal of Craft & Design Research (JCDR) is a BI-MONTHLY DOUBLE BLIND PEER REVIEWED Journal going to be published by Silpa-Sadana, Visva-Bharati (a Central University), with a view to showcasing communications substantiating the results of original work of research / review on current and emerging craft, including in-depth studies on materials and methods, processes, concepts, aesthetics and style. This will cover any discipline area of the applied arts and crafts, including craft education.

In due course, attempts will be made to include JCDR in various indexing services like Scopus (Elsevier), National Academy of Agriculture Science (NAAS), Indian Citation Index (ICI) and National Institute of Science Communication & Information Resources (NISCIAR).

Hence, the authors are requested to go through the below guidelines carefully and send us Manuscripts as per the requirements mentioned below. Please follow the below-mentioned parameters for improving journal’s overall quality and acceptance.

  1. Manuscripts containing unethical policies and practices shall be strongly discouraged.

  2. Authors must warrant the originality of the paper in that the contents of the paper in part or in full have not been published or submitted elsewhere while the paper is under review.

  3. Only original Research Articles or Review Papers of specialised topics within the scope of the journal will be encouraged.

  4. Manuscripts should not exceed 10,000 words for Research Articles and 15,000 words for Review Papers.

  5. Since JCDR is going to be a PEER REVIEWED journal, a Blind Review Process will be followed during the publication process. In order to ensure integrity of the blind peer-review process, every effort will be made to prevent the identities of the authors and reviewers from being known to each other.

  6. The author should provide affiliations with complete postal details and email id.

  7. Authors will be notified in due time regarding acceptance (possibly with certain revisions) or rejection of the manuscript on the basis of the referees’ comments. If revision is required, the author/s should provide a full revised manuscript in softcopy. A detailed note explaining how the manuscript has been amended/revised in response to the referees’ comments should also be included while submitting the revised manuscript.

  8. JCDR reserves an exclusive right for the paper until it is either rejected or published. The authors cannot submit the same paper in part or in full to another journal during the review process.

  9. All the Manuscripts should be spell checked and grammar checked properly as far as possible and also, should be free of Plagiarism. Authors are advised to attach the Plagiarism Report of the manuscript during submission (Similarity Index should not exceed 10% as per the UGC guideline).

  10. Authors are advised to adhere strictly to the guidelines to carry out a final check before submission of the manuscript to JCRD for review.

  11. Submissions not adhering to the above guidelines will be primarily rejected.

  12. Manuscripts prepared as per the guidelines should be mailed to the Editor at editor.jcdr.silpasadana@gmail.com.


Style Guidelines / Instructions for Author
Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts should be written in ENGLISH only using MS Word 2007 or higher without any Header, Footer or Page no. It should be concise.

Page Layout:

  • Paper Size: A4 Size

  • Margins: Top – 0.5 inch, Left – 0.8 inch, Bottom – 0.5 inch, Right – 0.6 inch

Font Style: Times New Roman

Pages should not to be numbered and the matter/manuscript should be arranged in the following order:

  • Article Title (font size 14 bold Sentence Case),

  • Name(s) of Author/s (font size 12 bold),

  • Affiliation and short address (font size 11 Italics).

  • Abstract,

  • Keywords,

  • Introduction,

  • Materials & Methods,

  • Results & Discussion,

  • Conclusion,

  • Acknowledgement (if any)

  • References

References should be relevant and complete as per APA style in 10 Font size (not more than 50).

For Review Articles, textual matter after Introduction can be classified as per the requirement.

Title:
Not exceeding about 100 Characters, should be written in Times New Roman (14 font Bold) in Sentence Case. If the current article forms part of a series, a subtitle indicating the aspect of the work covered in the present paper should be mentioned.

Author(s) Name and Address:
The names of all the authors with initials, if any, should be given along with only the name(s) of institution, City and Country.

Corresponding Author should be marked with asterisk (*), and Full Address, Pin Code & Contact Details along with E-mail should be mentioned.

No mention of Dr. / Prof. etc. for any author is encouraged.

Abstract:
Abstract is mandatory for all articles. It should highlight all aspects of the study in brief not exceeding 300 words. Abstract should be structured divided into following sub-headings: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion, and the Scope/Significance of the paper. References should be avoided in Abstract.

Keywords:
Maximum up to 6 Relevant Keywords in Alphabetical Order after the Abstract.

Numbering of Headings and subheadings to be done as follows:

  1. Introduction
    1.1 abcde
    1.2 abcde

  2. Materials and methods
    2.1 Abcd etc.

  3. Results and Discussion

  4. Conclusion

Introduction:
The introduction should be brief and pertinent. It should provide adequate background information and the scope of the paper to facilitate better understanding of the readers. Literature review should not be extensive, rather it should be relevant only to indicate the objective of the paper.

Materials and Methods:
The experimental section should provide a clear, unambiguous description of materials, methods, and equipment in sufficient details to permit reproducibility of the work elsewhere. Data should be arranged in a unified and coherent sequence so that the main conclusion emerging from the work is included. Data/results should be presented either in tabular or graphical forms. The results should be followed by proper discussion/interpretation in a lucid form.

Results and Discussion:
Results should be clear and concise. Discussion should explore the significance of the results of the work, no repetition should be done. Clubbing of Results and Discussion in one section is desirable. Authors are advised to avoid extensive citations and discussion of published literature in this section.

Acknowledgement:
This should be brief and for special assistance only, and is optional.

References:
References to published literature should be placed at the end of the paper and numbered consecutively. Referencing should be in APA style only.

For In-Text Citations the author can use any of the two methods:

  • Parenthetical citation: (Grady et al., 2019)

  • Narrative citation: Grady et al. (2019)

No. of References should not exceed 50.

Tables and Figures:
Tables and Figures should be included in the manuscript (i.e., in the body of the article within the text at the relevant places) only, and not attached separately at the end of the manuscript. They should be numbered as per the number of the main (section) heading and should bear brief-yet-meaningful titles. Column headings should be brief and meaningful.

Example:
Tables/figures coming under: 3. Results and Discussion should be numbered 3.1, 3.2 etc.

Table numbers and captions should be written above the tables (e.g., Table 1: Abcd)
Figure numbers and captions should be written below the figures (e.g., Figure1: Xyz)

Revision of Article for Correction:
After getting the reviewers’ comments, the authors should attach a word document titled “Responses to Reviewers’ Comments” containing all the responses pointwise, and the changes should be highlighted in the main manuscript. The revised manuscript prepared in this way will help in further processing of the article being considered
